The launch date for Huawei’s Android alternative HarmonyOS has been announced

Forced by US sanctions to develop its own operating system, Huawei finally announced the date it will officially introduce HarmonyOS, its Android alternative.

Huawei has been working on its own mobile operating system, called HarmonyOS , for several years . The company recently released a test version for developers in China , and now it looks like it’s ready to officially launch its new platform .

A teaser video was released on the official HarmonyOS account on Youtube and Weibo, revealing the launch date of the new Huawei operating system . It will take place on June 2, 2021 at 20:00 Beijing time.  It is not specified whether this will be a global launch or a local event for China.

300 million devices will run HarmonyOS

Recall that HarmonyOS development started in the spring of 2016 . It is compatible with Android apps and Huawei plans to update all its smartphones to this operating system . According to rumors, other smartphone manufacturers are also interested in Huawei’s new operating system. However, the HarmonyOS application range is not limited to smartphones.

HarmonyOS is a fully open source and versatile platform that can be installed on a wide variety of devices , from smartphones, tablets and smart watches to smart TVs and car multimedia systems . By the end of 2021, Huawei plans to operate nearly 300 million devices on HarmonyOS , 200 million of which are the company’s own devices and another 100 million joint products .
