Sainz: “I’m pushing myself to get used to Ferrari”

Carlos Sainz Jr said he had to make “many changes” to his driving style to get used to the Ferrari car, and he enjoyed tackling this challenge.

Ferrari has signed with McLaren driver Sainz after parting ways with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

The Spaniard has made a huge impact on the team since joining Ferrari and brought the team its first podium of the year with a flawless drive in Monaco.

While Sainz is now almost integrated into the team, he finds the Ferrari car to be “much different” from McLaren and therefore had to make many changes to Sainz’s driving style.

“The way I drive, the way I brake, the way I accelerate in different places and on different corners has changed a lot,” Sainz said.

“I have to push myself to be an open-minded driver and adapt to the car, and I actually enjoy it quite a lot.” said.

However, Sainz did not comment on the exact differences between Ferrari and McLaren, who are fighting for third place in the constructors’ championship.

“Of course, I keep this information for myself and my team. Frankly, McLaren may have changed a bit with the Mercedes engine as well. They look pretty good on the straights, especially this year, and they’re very, very strong in that area.”

“Whether at low speed, medium speed or high speed, in terms of driving and stability, these are completely different vehicles and in many ways I have to change and adapt.”

“I know the difference [between the two teams] but I won’t tell you that.”

Sainz has experience getting used to a new car in a short time as he has changed teams twice in the past. The Spaniard moved from Toro Rosso to Renault in the middle of the 2017 season and joined McLaren after spending a full season at Renault.

Sainz’s McLaren teammate was Lando Norris, and the British driver emphasized that his former teammate was very good at adapting to the car, and also talked about the differences between him and Daniel Ricciardo.

“Judging from what I’ve seen so far, Daniel wants a vehicle that fits him better,” Norris says.

“Carlos was good at driving even a car that wasn’t very easy to drive. He was doing that very well.”

“I think I learned that too. Daniel, on the other hand, drives very fast when he has a suitable car.”

“Like other pilots, you have a harder time when you face a few problems or lose your sense of confidence.”

“I don’t think it’s just him having this problem. Some pilots may have more trouble with this than others. It’s a matter of trust.” said.
