The single-engine 5th generation fighter jet, designed by Russia’s leading fighter jet manufacturer Sukhoi, was showcased at the MAKS-2021 aerospace fair, which was also attended by President Vladimir Putin.
On Tuesday, July 20, the launch of the new 5th generation single-engine, stealth light class fighter with a take-off weight of fewer than 18 tons at the MAKS-2021 aerospace fair held in Zhukovsky, Russia, with the participation of President Vladimir Putin. done. Oleg Panteleev, head of the Aviaport analytical agency, said that the fighter jet, named “Checkmate” (Check-Mat) , is likely to be launched as a competitor to the F-35 stealth fighter produced under the leadership of the United States.
‘Has ghostly features and low operating cost’
Russia’s state aerospace and defense company Rostec stated that the aircraft will be difficult to detect and its operating costs will be low. As it is known, due to the high maintenance and maintenance costs of F-35 stealth fighters, many countries stay away from these aircraft. In this context, it seems likely that Russia will strengthen its hand in the advanced 5th generation aircraft market share.
Having smaller dimensions than the Su-57, a heavy class 5th generation fighter aircraft, Checkmate is expected to reach speeds of Mach 1.8-2 and an operational range of around 3000 km.
While the aircraft is planned to make its first flight in 2023, it is noted that it will take 2026 for the aircraft to start mass production and enter the inventory.
