meteor falling to Earth may hold secrets to life on our planet

According to the latest research, it is thought that the extremely rare meteorite that fell in the UK on February 28, 2021 may have the secrets of life on Earth.

Researchers Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), a very rare stone sky on the planet with the help of the fund thinks it can reveal the origin of life. The Winchcombe meteorite, named after the place where it fell , fell in the United Kingdom in early 2021. In the investigations, it was seen that the origin of the meteor dates back to the beginning times of the solar system 4.5 billion years ago and is a very rare type of carbonaceous chondrite .

Scientists: Studying this meteor is like a dream

It was stated that the meteorite is rich in water and organic matter and is a species that gained its chemistry from the formation of the solar system . STFC wanted to support scientists in the UK and provided them with an “ immediate grant ” to fund their research . Different researchers from the UK also stated that studying this meteorite was like a dream, and they thanked STFC for the funds provided.

Thanks to the funding, Winchcombe was able to be studied in more detail. From Royal Holloway, University of London, Dr. According to Queenie Chan , preliminary analyzes confirmed that the meteor contained a fairly wide range of organic matter. According to Chan, it may be possible to have an idea about how life on Earth came about by understanding the components involved in the formation of the solar system.

A recovered fragment of the Winchcombe meteorite is also on display at the London Museum of Natural History .
