Chinese Payments Giant Alipay Starts Selling NFTs

Alipay, China’s largest third-party payment app, began selling non-fungible token (NFT) artwork, finding buyers for a total of 8,000 prints of the two artworks in one day

Alipay, China’s largest third-party payment app, started selling non-fungible token (NFT) artwork, finding buyers for a total of 8,000 prints of the two artworks in one day.

The first NFT group uncovered by Alipay consisted of images of flying apsaras and sacred deer from the Thousand Buddha Caves or Mogao Cave in Dunhuang, China. Buyers were able to purchase the works using 10 Alipay points plus CNY 9.90 (US$ 1.53). Other currencies are not accepted.

NFT art is powered by Ant Chain, Ant Group’s self-developed blockchain platform. Founded in 2015, Ant Chain’s key products include the blockchain cloud service platform as a service of Ant Financial and OpenChain, a permissionless/permissioned hybrid chain for developers creating dApps.

Alipay will release a second batch of NFT 8,000 prints tomorrow, consisting of two artworks from the Chinese animated series Scissor Seven.
