Apple buys 25 AI companies in five years

Apple invests heavily in artificial intelligence. According to a new study by GlobalData, the Cupertino company purchased 25 startups that developed artificial intelligence and machine learning between 2016 and 2020.

According to the results, Apple is ahead of its competitors. The companies that spend the most money on artificial intelligence (AI) are listed as follows:

  • Google: 14
  • Microsoft: 12
  • Facebook: 9

US technology giants such as Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook bought a total of 60 artificial intelligence and machine learning companies between the aforementioned dates. Apple often incorporates initiatives that will contribute to the development of Siri.

Nicklas Nilsson, senior analyst with the GlobalData research team, commented:

“Apple is accelerating the process of acquiring AI companies to improve Siri and introduce new features on iPhones. Machine learning initiative Inductiv was acquired to improve Siri’s data processing capabilities. Irish Voysis company Siri’s natural language “PullString will make it easier for iOS developers to use Siri.”

Apart from these acquisitions, technology companies actively recruit employees who are interested in artificial intelligence. The research revealed that five companies on the list posted more than 14,000 jobs in the field of artificial intelligence during 2020.
