TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the third-generation AirPods will enter mass production in the third quarter of 2021. Apple was expected to launch the new wireless headset model in March. However, it looks like the AirPods 3 won’t arrive this month.
According to the experienced analyst, Apple is hesitant about whether to stop production of AirPods 2 when the third-generation AirPods go into mass production. Because AirPods 2 staying on sale at a lower price may affect the demand for AirPods 3.
Kuo predicts that Apple will see a drop in wireless ear shipments this year, facing stiff competition from rival manufacturers. The Cupertino giant had shipped 90 million AirPods in 2020. This year, the figure is expected to fall to 78 million units.
The images leaked to the Internet revealed that the AirPods 3 will have a similar design to the AirPods Pro. The new wireless headset is reportedly unlikely to have active noise canceling (ANC) and spatial audio features.
